About Duwayne Williams
I am a contemporary realist artist, specializing in fine art oil paintings and photography. In college, I originally majored in Technical Illustration, and attribute much of my artistic ability to the early art training I received from my father. In my twenties, I found a love of oil painting, and much of the attention to detail required in my illustration training has been transferred to my paintings. I am mostly self-taught, learning by trial and error. I now paint realistic pictures of the best of America, bringing to life traditional landscapes, stately victorian houses, small-town scenes, historical early California and Texas missions, and classic military art. My paintings try to capture the essence of realism, while featuring bold and vivid colors, once described as "Imagined Realism". Uplifting, colorful and emotional are some of the descriptions of my works. In addition, I also enjoy photography.
Originally a native of California, I now live in South Carolina. I am a member and past-president of the Santa Clarita Artists' Association, as well as a life member of the Santa Paula Society of the Arts. I'm proud to say that several of my artworks are in private collections.
In addition to being an oil painter, I recently completed a 40 year career as a US Army pilot, flying UH-1 Huey and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters with two combat tours to Iraq and Kuwait. I also served with the elite 75th Airborne Rangers, and I have published several books about my military experiences, as well as other subjects.
